This article provides answers to questions about the changes with the OSMR certification exam.
What is the change regarding the OSMR certification?
OffSec will pause issuing new OSMR certifications effective November 2, 2025.
Why is OffSec placing the OSMR certification on hiatus?
The OSMR has been an important part of OffSec’s certification portfolio, focusing on privilege escalation, bypassing security controls, and exploiting vulnerabilities on Apple’s latest ARM (M-series) Macs. At this time, we are pausing the issuance of new OSMR certifications so we can focus on maintaining and expanding other areas of our certification program that best align with current industry needs.
I have earned my OSMR certification, will this still be valid?
This hiatus does not diminish the value of the OSMR. If you already hold it, your credential remains valid, respected, and will continue to be recognized by OffSec and employers.
Does this mean OSMR is gone forever?
Not necessarily. While we are not currently issuing new certifications, we continually assess industry needs and learner demand. If conditions change, we may revisit this decision in the future.
Will the course still be available?
Yes, there are currently no changes to the EXP-312 course despite updates to the OSMR certification exam. However, if you enrolled in the course via the Course & Cert Exam Bundle or the Learn One subscription and still have active access, we recommend downloading the course materials. This will allow you to continue studying at your own pace and on your own schedule.
Can I still schedule my OSMR exam on or after November 2, 2025?
No. Exams for OSMR will no longer be available starting November 2, 2025. If you have an OSMR exam booked after this date, please reschedule it to an earlier date. Cooldown period will be waived to help you meet the deadline.
What if I was preparing for OSMR?
If you currently have scheduled your exam on or after November 2, 2025, we recommend you reschedule your exam to an earlier date. Our exam labs fill up fast. Please note that we are unable to hold or reserve specific dates for you as all bookings are managed on a first-come, first-served basis.
If you have an available exam attempt, we strongly encourage you to schedule it as soon as possible to secure a seat before November 2, 2025.
You may also continue building skills by working through the course content. If you haven’t already, please download the materials so you can continue practicing offline or keep them for later use. Once you complete the labs, you may request a Letter of Completion by submitting your lab report. We also recommend exploring alternative OffSec certifications that align with your goals.
Can I obtain a completion letter upon completing the course offline?
Yes. After finishing all course labs, please submit your work in PDF format via email to challenges@offsec.com. You will receive feedback within ten (10) business days.
What if I have more questions?
If you have additional questions not covered here, please submit a request and we will be happy to assist you.
