This article explains OffSec's Account Leveling feature — how learners earn XP, progress through levels, and track their growth across supported activities.
Your account level and XP may also appear in your profile experience, including your Skills Passport tab and eligible shareable cards. This helps you track your progress and showcase your OffSec journey on LinkedIn and other platforms.
What is Account Leveling?
Account Leveling is part of OffSec's gamification experience. It gives you a more visible and rewarding way to track progress across supported learning activities.
As you complete eligible content and earn Experience Points (XP), your account level increases over time.
Your level and XP may also appear on your Skills Passport tab and eligible shareable cards, so your progression can be seen as part of your broader OffSec journey.
What is XP?
XP stands for Experience Points. XP is awarded for eligible learning activity completions where the feature is supported.
XP helps reflect your progress and contributes to your overall account level. Your accumulated XP may also appear in your profile and Skills Passport experience as part of your broader OffSec progress.
Where can I see my account level?
Your account level and XP may be visible in supported areas of the platform, including:
- Profile header — Your level may appear alongside your profile information.
- Skills Passport tab — Your level and XP may appear as part of your all-time achievement overview.
- Shareable cards — Eligible Skills Passport cards may include your level and XP as part of your progress snapshot.
To download a shareable card featuring your level and XP:
- Go to My Profile.
- Open the Skills Passport tab.
- Browse the card carousel to choose the card you want to share.
- Use the download control to save the card.
How do I earn XP?
You earn XP by completing supported activities where XP is enabled. This may include completing eligible content or submitting correct answers or flags in supported areas of the platform.
As you earn XP, your account level increases over time. This progress may also be reflected in your profile and Skills Passport experience.
Does every activity award XP?
Not always. XP is only awarded for supported content and qualifying completions where the feature is available.
If an activity does not support XP, it will not increase your XP or account level.
What activities do not grant XP?
Not all content or activity awards XP. You will not earn XP from the following:
- Exams
- Tournaments
- Any type of assessment
- Retired Learning Units
- Bonus or Gauntlet-specific points
XP values and progression may evolve over time as the gamification experience grows. Account Leveling adds a progression layer to your learning experience, but it does not change the underlying course, lab, or exam content.
Some activities that do not grant XP may still appear in other areas of your profile experience, such as learning history, achievements, or Skills Passport stats, depending on the activity type.
How does Account Leveling work?
As you earn XP, it is added to your account progress. When you reach the required XP threshold for the next level, your account level increases.
Here’s how it works:
- You complete eligible content or supported learning activity.
- XP is calculated based on the supported activity and progression rules.
- XP is added to your account.
- The system checks whether you have reached the next level threshold.
- If you meet the threshold, your account level increases.
- If you have not reached the next threshold yet, your XP still counts toward future progress.
Early levels are designed to be reached more quickly, while higher levels require more XP and continued effort.
Your level and XP may be visible across supported areas of the platform, including your Skills Passport tab and eligible shareable cards.
Is every level the same difficulty to reach?
No. Early levels are designed to be reached more quickly, while higher levels require more XP. This helps make early progress feel approachable while still supporting long-term growth.
What affects how much XP I earn?
XP can vary depending on the supported content completed. In some cases, XP may be influenced by the skills associated with that content and the relative level or difficulty of those skills.
Because of this, not every completion will necessarily award the same amount of XP.
Where can I see XP information?
XP-related information may appear in supported parts of the platform, such as on content or lab pages and in progress or completion feedback.
You may also see your total XP and level in your profile experience, including your Skills Passport tab and eligible Skills Passport shareable cards.
What happens when I level up?
When you reach a new level, the platform may show a confirmation or progress update to reflect your advancement.
Depending on the experience, this may include visual feedback such as notifications or animations.
Your updated level may also be reflected in your profile and Skills Passport experience.
Will my previous progress count?
OffSec plans to support existing learners as Account Leveling is introduced. This means eligible prior activity may be reflected, so current users are not starting from zero.
Does the same lab always give the same XP as another lab?
Not necessarily. XP may differ depending on the supported content and how it is mapped within the progression system.
Are the XP examples shown in the previews final?
No. Preview examples are meant to illustrate how the system works. Specific XP values, thresholds, and progression behavior may change as the feature develops.
Is the XP formula public?
OffSec may refine progression models over time, so learners should view XP and account levels as part of an overall progression system rather than as a fixed scoring contract.
Does Account Leveling change the underlying content?
No. Account Leveling adds a progression layer to the learning experience, but it does not change the underlying lab or course content itself.
My Level or XP is not showing on my Skills Passport
If your level or XP is not appearing on your Skills Passport tab or eligible shareable cards, here are a few things to check:
- Have you completed eligible content? Only supported activities award XP.
- Are you a new learner? New accounts start at the beginning of the leveling experience and progress as eligible content is completed.
- Has your XP updated recently? Some updates may take time to appear across all profile areas.
- Have you earned XP without leveling up yet? You may have earned XP without reaching the next level threshold. Your XP still counts toward future progress.
XP values, thresholds, and progression behavior may evolve over time. Example screenshots and figures shown on the platform are illustrative and should not be treated as final.
If your level or XP still does not appear after refreshing your profile, submit a support request and our team will review your account.
